Three Gunas, three Goddesses - Deepening Your Understanding of the Anusara® Method

A Workshop Series with Alison Alstrom at the MAC

The Goddess Lakshmi (Sri)

In the practice of Hatha Yoga, we utilize the body to help us decipher spiritual energies and experiences, and ground them in our day to day lives. As primary archetypes of the tantric philisophical lineage in which Anusara Yoga has its roots, The three Goddesss - Kali, Sarasvati, and Lakshmi (Sri), can provide tremendous insight into our own personal journey.

Join Portland based instructor Alison Alstrom to deepen your understanding of the elegant and deeply practical Universal Principles of Alignment™ of Anusara Yoga® through the triadic face of the divine feminine.

Kali - Mining the place of Potential

The goddess Kali represents potential, source, and raw power. Kali is associated with the totality found in the darkness before becoming, and can be thought of in relation to tamas guna. In this section we will explore the very foundation of Anusara Yoga, lining up with the great pulsation of Shakti (universal consciousness) that leaves no particle or being untouched. Universal Principles one, two and five will be practiced in depth, with an emphasis on finding your way to and moving from your center. Flowing through standing poses and core work will be emphasized, arm balances, backbends and inversions will be offered according to appropriateness.

Sarasvati - Bowing to Your Divine Process

The second section will add the incredible intelligence of Anusara's principles three and four, filling in and fleshing out your understanding of the UPA's. The heart of Sarasvati lies in the way that conscious order, or technique, organizes our raw material, opening us to experience of our essential state of boundless freedom. As this is the active manifestation part of the cycle, it can be compared to the quality of rajas. Sun salutes and hip openers will usher in your deeper backbends. You'll be amazed at what you're capable of.

Sri - The Blessings of Refinement at the Peak

The energy of Sri, also known as Lakshmi, is about refining and enjoying our gifts, and lines up with satva. Here, the energetic loops of the body will be introduced in an upbeat practice that celebrates embodiment itself, building on the fundamentals to inform your journey into a richer experience of yoga - advancing in the practice of asana, and setting forth to expand your divine essence into every moment of your life.

These workshops are conceived as a series, and are best offered together in a weekend workshop or retreat format.
