Aug 30, 2008, The Primary Currents of Energy
I had a private session yesterday with a new student who is a patient at the chiropractic clinic. He was very motivated and technically oriented, so I found it helpful to move him away from, rather than toward, an in depth analysis of his alignment. it was very interesting. Most of his questions / complaints about his body had to do with his hips, legs and feet. But because it was immobility we were working with, and not an injury per se, we worked with breathing and the focal points rather than messy details about inner thigh rotations and optimal tailbone action. We worked with drawing in and extending out via the two primary currents of energy. Such a good lesson to me at the moment, as I have been cowering in overwhelm before my mountainous to do list since my return from the never never land of my trip to California. Setting goals is important, but getting bogged down in the details of future plans can be debilitating. Going back to basics is a good response. In yoga practice according to John Friend, first we receive, or soften, then we line up with the primary currents of energy: drawing in from the outside to the center, and extending from the center back outside. In my life - hmmm... Maybe the first step is to forgive myself for all that I haven't done already. Then, to respond to my immediate environment - receiving information on what needs doing in the here and now, and doing it. That first part will surely prove the most difficult. We have a new moon at noon today, so it is time to set intentions. Mine will be "steady as she goes, one step at a time, and balance on the way up the mountain."
