Cobra Pose Yoga Blog

Aug 26, 2008, Getting My Strength Back

I am feeling better every day. As much as I would like my tomatoes to actually turn red this year, I am enjoying the summer rains that we are having in Portland this week. The warm wet air, the break from the sweltering sun of midsummer. It's restful.

I went to Sabrina's class last night. Sabrina was the first teacher I hired at Concordia movement Center. Her class is good, she is inspiring in her youthfulness and unending positivity. She taught twisted child's pose, or paravrtta balasana, which amused and pleased me. Perhaps she read yesterday's post?

Two poses are calling to me this morning from the shadows. Warrior two, because of the pure will and stamina I have to elicit from my depths in order to get back on the horse and do what needs to be done after the whirlwind getting married tour. And cobra pose.

Cobra pose because of this website building project. Writing this website is like writing a book only all the edits are right out in the open. All the drafts, all my flubs and typos, all my silly first and second and tenth and eleven drafts, are public domain. I used to be a starkly and profoundly private person. Certain events in my life, together with my yoga practice, have begun to shift that. More toward balance, I think. With this website project, I slowly emerge from underground, and open the window of my heart to the whoever cares to look inside.

I've seen people burst into tears many many times in yoga classes. And one of the commonest reasons for that to happen is a dramatic opening of the heart. I'm not crying yet, but I am seeking refuge in my practice. I am looking for wisdom in my body to help me navigate this real life experience with grace.
