Article on Personal Growth 3

Sept 30, 2008, The Practice of Community (Kula)

It was beautiful having the practice on Sunday. A moderate turnout - all but one of the teachers from the Concordia studio plus one husband and one special guest.

"Kula" in Sanskrit, basically means community, and is one of the fundamental elements of Anusara YogaŽ. In Anusara, we don't think that yogis are islands. I'm sure there is benefit to the monastic life, and I have certainly craved it at certain times. But at least for the time being, I live here, in society. My experience if Anusara YogaŽ is as a practice for people that live in society, to find balance and solace amidst the relative chaos of their everyday lives. One of the great ways that I know of to find that solace is by practicing yoga with friends.
