What is the Anusara Immersion?

Would you like to deepen your practice? do you thinkyou might want to teach Anusara Yoga® someday?

The heart of Anusara yoga is the balance of three elements: community, philosophy and alignment. The Anusara Yoga Immersion is designed to carry you straight into this heart to steep in the wisdom of the tradition. This comprehensive training will cover every aspect of Anusara Yoga in detail, including all asanas from the Level 1 and 2 syllabi, classical and Anusara yoga philosophy, and all components of the Universal Principles of Alignment™; an elegant set of biomechanical principles to guide you in your practice. This 108 hour course meets the immersion prerequisites of Anusara Yoga Certification. Whether you are a student seeking to further your understanding, a potential teacher, or someone who already teaches yoga, join us for this opportunity to be in great company and drink deeply.

When and Where does the Immerison Take Place?

We are so excited to be able to Announce our new Immersion home, at Yoga Union, on SE 50th Street near Hawthonrne.

The immersion takes place one weekend each month for six months, beginning in January of 2010. Each weekend consists of Friday night 6-9 asana practice and and satsang, and Saturday and Sunday, 11:00am to 6:00pm exploring asana, anatomy, philosophy, and the fundamentals of the Anusara methodology. The immersion can be taken in blocks, each block consisting of two weekends.

The dates of the immersion are as follows:

March 19th - 21st

April 23rd - 25th

May 14th - 16th

June 19th - 21

July 16th -18th

Meet The Immersion Faculty

Darcy Lyon, Certified ANusaara Yoga Instructor

Darcy Lyon (MA,RYT) is a Certified Ansuara Instructor and Expressive Arts therapist (intern) who has taught in multiple settings over the last eight years. Reflecting an exuberant playfulness and passionate love for movement, her teaching equally reflects a depth of understanding in psychological change and bridging of eastern and western wisdom traditions. Through her company Heartfire Healing Arts (www.HeartfireArts.com) she has nourished transformation and creative healing for 11 years.

Anusara-inspired™ Instructor Alison Alstrom Alison Alstrom has been exploring the practice of yoga-as-living since being taught to meditate as a small child. A full time yoga instructor since 2003, she has completed extensive studies with Anusara's founder, John Friend, in all aspects of practice and the art of teaching. She has has recently been honored to serve as assistant for Sianna Sherman, Desiree Rumbaugh and Darren Rhodes.
Dr Douglas Brooks

Dr. Douglas Brooks is among the world’s leading scholars of Hindu Tantrism and the esoteric traditions of the Goddess. After receiving a Masters degree from Harvard Divinity School, he continued his studies in the history of religions, Sanskrit, and Indian studies going on to receive a Masters and Doctorate from Harvard University's Center for the Study of World Religions.In addition to his formal Western education, Douglas lived for many years in India in the house of his Teacher according to the traditions of Guru Kulam.

Douglas is the author of a number of books and scholarly articles on Hinduism and the Comparative Study of Religion.

His most recent work includes a new commentary on the Bhagavad Gita from a Tantric point of view. This work is a direct collaboration with John Friend, world-renown yoga teacher and the founder of Anusara Yoga. www.rajanaka.com

Dr Jason Lindekugel

Dr. Jason Lindekugel is a Doctor of Chiropractic holding state and national board certification, as well as certification in Active Release Technique (ART), Egoscue, and Function Dynamics Exercise Therapies. His blend of movement and structural alignment therapies has facilitated the healing of numerous clients, including elite athletes at the Iron Man Triathlon competition. He taught Anatomy at East West Massage School, and has recently found a kinship with the Anusara Yoga vision through his collaboration with yoga teacher Alison Alstrom. www.concordiachiropractic.com
